Buying Art

Why are some pieces marked NFS or private collection?
NFS or not for sale means that a piece is not available at the present time. I show my work and virtually all art competitions require that the piece be for sale at the time of the competition. If you are particularly interested in a NSF piece please let me know and I can try to let you know when/if it become available. Private collection means that either I don’t know who bought the work (sold through a gallery) or the owner prefers that their name is not listed.

How can I pay you?
Cash or US dollar check or postal money order.

What’s with the off-white mats and metal frames?
Since I show my work, the framing needs to conform to gallery standards: neutral light colored mats and simple unadorned frames. By using off-white mats and metal frames I ensure both that I can show any framed piece and also that when you bring the work home that it will work with a wide variety of decorative tastes

Shipping.

Do you ship your work? How?
I am happy to ship it to your home or office anywhere in Canada or the USA. I pack it myself (in a double box with padded corners) and ship it Fedex Air to minimize the time it spends in transit. I have never had a problem with shipping art (but there is a first time for everything).

I will bill you for the actual cost of shipping, which I can estimate for you, before you decide. Fedex basic insurance covers $500 dollars of loss in the case of a total loss (unlikely), and you can also purchase additional insurance. Please let me know if you wish to do this.

Do you ship to Canada?
Yes. Not a problem at all.

Other Art Questions

How do I look after my art?
Watercolor is more fragile than oils or acrylics, but looking after it is easy if you follow these simple guidelines: Don’t hang it in bright direct sunlight, keep it away from moisture and keep it away from acids. Acids that might damage your art are typically found in wood pulp such as paper, mats, and framing supplies. All my work is framed using archival materials, so be careful to ask for archival framing if you have the piece reframed.

Aren’t you worried that people will download images of your work?
My work is copyright protected. Practically speaking my work is very large and even though the images of the work are fairly high resolution they will not reproduce satisfactorily at even one half of the original size.

How do you pick your subjects for a painting?
Its mostly about the light in paintings. I love shiny iridescent things. I like the way light looks on water. I like looking at things close up, closer than we look at things most of the time.
